Mental health awareness week 10 – 16 May

Many of us may have struggled during these uncertain times. That’s why we’re encouraging you to get closer to nature this Mental Health Awareness week, as it can support your mental health and wellbeing, whether that’s by bringing nature indoors or getting outside.

Getting active in nature can make a huge difference to our mental health and wellbeing. Sign up to walk, run or jog Samarathon in July, and reap the benefits with Samaritans. Participating in Samarathon contributes towards the rail industry volunteering initiative, Million Hour Challenge, including training hours. So why not look after your own mental health and wellbeing, while clocking hours towards the Challenge?

How you can get involved

Why not follow Samaritans suggested themes for each day within your teams:

Monday, Time with Nature

Plant Pals Competition – Encourage colleagues to post or share photos of their indoor pot plants, with a special shout-out to the best named plant.

Tuesday, Time Outdoors

Samarathon – Encourage colleagues to sign up for Samarathon, the virtual fundraiser to run, jog or walk a marathon this July. Don’t forget, taking part in Samarathon contibutes to the rail industry Million Hour Challenge.

Wednesday, Time for You

Pens Down Lunch-hour – Take the full hour. Put it in yours and/or your team’s diaries. Encourage colleagues to take some time for themselves.

Thursday, Time to Create

#MyWholeSelfie – Encourage colleagues to draw self-portraits, collages or creations, or take a selfie that sums them up.

Friday, Time Together

A chat and a cuppa – Encourage colleagues to get together for a cuppa and a chat. You could host them at the same time or at different times during the day. Take the time to check in and ask how the week’s been.
