Tony Brindley at Romford walked the line from Reading to Shenfield – over 70 milesand raised a total of £2,430 for Samaritans an amazing effort which came with its challenges.

‘Massive congratulations to our very own Tony Brindley, from MTR Crossrail who works on the Romford platform. Tony walked along the Elizabeth line from Reading to Shenfield to raise money and awareness for Havering Samaritans. This took strength, courage and desire to be able to do the walk, well done and thank you!

Customer and Community ambassador Richard Baker said, “I’m extremely proud of Tony for the dedication he has showed. We planned the route together for 8 months and it has been a success. He is a great person who would do anything for anyone and proved it by doing this great cause and would like to say thanks to the Samaritans for all of their support.”

Another event at Romford Station saw Samaritans set up exercise bikes loaned from Fitness First in Romford for customers and colleagues to have a go on. This is an annual all-day event Samaritans have held for the last 10 years to raise awareness and money to help the local community.

Tony said, “Throughout the event, I spoke to those taking part in the event to find out what they knew about the Samaritans and heard how they have helped people throughout the year. The Samaritans offer a safe place for anyone to talk to, anytime they like.
